Karl and Rita
A loveseat bench intended to become a cherished family heirloom, and crafted to be passed down through the generations. In addition to winning Wood Awards 2024, ‘Karl and Rita’ was shortlisted for internationally recognised design awards:
The Young Furniture Makers 2024 Award and the Arts Thread Global creative Graduate Showcase 2024. Created in collaboration with Lee Furniture, this piece is made from sustainably sourced British ash, celebrating both craftsmanship and responsible material use.

The ‘Karl and Rita’ loveseat design uses angled seating to encourage close conversations, inviting individuals to share family histories. In addition to this, the design incorporates storage for sentimental objects that are personal to the owner. The inclusion of a hidden compartment serves as a memory box for cherished mementos.
Inspired by Arts and Crafts principles, the piece features woven backrests and seats, and is crafted from solid ash with an ebonised finish. Over time, the natural wear on the armrests and backrests will develop a rich patina, allowing the chair to tell its own story as it accompanies its owners through the years.
